If Arkansas is your destination for a vacation, we want to share a couple of our favorite places to visit in Northwest Arkansas : Eureka Springs and Bentonville. Eureka Springs is affectionately called the “Little Switzerland of America” and we certainly agree! .
Town of Eureka Springs
Charming mountain town in the Ozark Mountains, Eureka Springs downtown has several buildings on the national registry. Victorian architecture and quaint gingerbread designed homes are certainly part of the charm. We enjoyed strolling around the downtown area.
During our visit we read that the town had 3 large fires in the downtown area in the late 1800’s so they used limestone to rebuild it. We visited Eureka Springs in the fall, but the natural beauty would be enjoyed every season here! Our daughter saw the Great Passion years ago during the summer, it is one of the largest attended outdoor musicals in the US. This production is typically done May-October.

Travel & Leisure (and other travel resources) have rated Eureka Springs as one of the top mountain towns in the US. http://www.travelandleisure. com/slideshows/americas- favorite-mountain-towns/19
Thorncrown Chapel, Eureka Springs
Thorncrown Chapel is a must see when in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. This breathtaking chapel is on the American Institute of Architecture’s Design of the decade and is 4th on the AIA’s list of the top 20th century buildings. `No charge, but they gladly accepts donations. We enjoyed our visit and were amazed by the setting and all the glass.

Bentonville:
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art “was founded in 2005 by the Walton Family Foundation as a nonprofit charitable organization for all to enjoy”. Not sure what to expect; however, we were pleasantly surprised with Crystal Bridges. In our opinion, it is comparable to other distinguished art museums around the country.
It is has 120 acre park for walking, a diverse art collection, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home, James Turrell’s Skyspace, and a restaurant. It has a great art collection, we really enjoyed the unique contemporary art. According to the website: : “There is NO cost to view the Museum’s permanent collection, which is on view year round.”General admission to Crystal Bridges is sponsored by Walmart.”
